Steps to Protect Your Computer..!!

1. Turn on automatic updates.

After installing your operating system, you usually forget to pay attention on operating system updates. If your operating system is not updated for protection against loopholes and security threats found after you installed it, your computer may be vulnerable to outside world. Hackers can get access to your computer by using these loopholes and they can do anything with your computer. So, to keep you safe, turn on automatic updates. When automatic updates are turned on your operating system is updated frequently and you will be safe from unwanted trouble. You can turn on automatic updates from Control Panel => Security Center => Automatic Updates. You must be logged in as Administrator to change this setting.

2. Turn on Windows Firewall.

Windows Firewall is a barrier between your computer and outside internet. It protects you by filtering incoming and outgoing traffic and allows only trusted programs to communicate through internet. You can turn on Windows Firewall from Control Panel => Windows Firewall. You must be logged in as Administrator to change this setting.

3. Install good anti-virus software.

Anti-virus software protects your computer from viruses that can damage your computer. Only installing anti-virus software is not enough. Your anti-virus software must be updated regularly with latest virus definition database, as new viruses are found daily.

4. Run windows in a restricted mode.

When you log in using a limited account, you are protecting your computer from various threats, as limited account runs in restricted mode and can not damage your computer by changing system files or registry. In fact, limited account can not install new programs and can not write to system files or registry, thus making you safe from unwanted programs which gets installed automatically from internet without your knowledge. Log in as Administrator only when you want to do some maintenance work or install new programs.

5. Do NOT click on untrusted links.

You should not click any link received in your email, unless you trust the sender. If you click on this untrusted links, it can take you to fake websites and can steal your user name, password, credit card details, or can install unwanted programs without your knowledge. Instead of clicking on the link you received in your email, copy the link address and paste it in a new browser window. Before writing your user name, password, credit card and any other personal details, recheck the domain name in address bar.

6. Do NOT write in pop up windows.

You should write your user name, password, credit card and any other personal details in main window only. If during your work, any pop up window opens asking your password or credit card details, close it immediately. DO NOT write your personal information in any pop up window.

EV-DO means “Evolution- Data Optimized” or” Evolution- Data only”. It is a standard telecommunication services for the wireless transmission of data. This EVDO service is for broadband internet access. It uses radio frequency signals for data transmission. PayPal Problem Partially Solved

Paypal due to  conflict with the Reserve Bank of India, had to disable personal payment transfer and money withdrawal on Indian Accounts.  For more than a month everyone using Paypal had to hold their withdrawal and transfer. However today PayPal has solved one of the two issues. Now you can withdraw money from your Paypal account but the personal transfer has still been disabled. However its expected to continue the Personal transfer very soon.

PayPal introduces the “Export Code“  for each of its customers starting from now. Below is the message from the PayPal Blog.

“Dear Ram Kumar,

We have been diligently working with the RBI and our business partners to resume Indian bank withdrawals for the thousands of Indian businesses who depend on PayPal to sell their goods or services in the global marketplace. Today, we are happy to announce that the RBI has allowed us to continue local bank  withdrawals for settlements for exports of goods and services. We are currently making changes to comply with Indian regulations for settlements for exports of goods and services, and we anticipate that, as of Wednesday, March 3rd, customers will be able to use our bank withdrawal service. As part of the changes, you will be required to fill out a new field entitled ‘Export Code’ when you request a withdrawal. This information is required under the current laws of India in order to identify the nature of cross-border merchant transactions.

On Monday, March 1st, we will be back in touch with specific instructions on how you can move  your money into your bank account. Moving forward, the RBI has told us that PayPal needs specific approvals to allow personal remittances to India, which we currently do not have. Until we get these approvals, personal payments into India will remain suspended. However, if you are an exporter, you will continue to be able to use the PayPal service for payments of goods and services. In fact, with the changes we are making to our system, PayPal is now set to be a more powerful engine for exporters in India. With purpose codes for export transactions and FIRCs (Foreign Inward Remittance Certificates), you should now be able  to get the export related benefits you seek. Home theater projectors can weigh less than 7 pounds or as much as 20 pounds. Look for a lightweight projector if you want to use your projector outside your home. This factor though doesn’t affect the quality of the picture, its always better to get a light weighted one.

How to reset Trial period in Softwares

Many Software use  third party software like Sentinel or Win License for protection and licensing. These protectors will have functionality for trial periods also. Using this, many software gives 15 or 30days trial period after installation like Kaspersky. However there are software that can reset the trial period of such software. Find your friends gmail password

I have quoted in one of my old article that gtalk has a serious security issue, which has not been rectified till now. Using this flaw we can login into a friends’ gmail account without knowing their password.

Gtalk stores its account information in the Windows Registry, that too in text format. Everything in it except the password in unencrypted.

I wonder how Google considers this as a safety measure. Though we cannot view the password directly from Windows registry, we can use the encrypted password to login to gtalk or gmail, even without knowing the actual password.

Here is the step by step guide to get an encrypted password from another computer and use it to login in your computer.

Note: You need to have access to the other computer to get the encrypted text, however if you are good in programming, you can use your skills in making a bot which can retrieve the encrypted passwords and mail to your inbox. Also you can access their encrypted password, if the user has chosen to remember his password atleast once during sign in.

In friend’s System

1. Open “Run” windows, this can be done by clicking on “Start menu” or pressing “Window Key + R”.
2. Type “regedit” and Click on “OK”

1. This will open the Windows Registry Editor.
2. Select the Hive HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

1. Then under that select HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Google -> Google Talk -> Accounts
2. This will list the accounts he that person the logged in with his computer.
3. Open the account you want to get password, in my case I have selected rkdperil@gmail.com
4. In the right panel you can see the Field “pw” , this contains the encrypted password of that gmail account.

Copy the string in "pw" field

1. This encrypted password is independent of the computer used.
2. So this password can be copied to some other computer and we can login through this.

In Your System

1. Open Gtalk, in the login form , type your friend’s id and some temporary password and select “ Remember Password“
2. Click on Sign in button, the login will fail.
3. Now open your Windows Registry and goto the gtalk account information folder (HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Google -> Google Talk -> Accounts)
4. Locate your friend’s email id there, select it. You double click the “pw” field can see some random value.
5. Now replace it with the encrypted password you got from your friend’s computer and paste it here.
6. Download a gTalk password recovery software, there are lots of such tool available.
7. Run the recovery program and it will successfully decrypt you friend’s password.
8. That’s it. You are done.
